ID Verification

Physical ID Scanner

A hardware scanner bolts onto the machine’s modular mounting plate. The customer scans the barcode on the back of their government-issued ID.

Best for: Lower-risk environments or locations where you want to avoid recurring per-scan costs.

Limitations: It verifies age based on the barcode data but does not perform facial matching, meaning it cannot detect borrowed, expired, or fraudulent IDs as effectively as biometric systems.

Biometric ID Verification (Apt-Verify)

This is a more robust, "Know Your Customer" (KYC) solution. The customer taps "Buy" on the screen, follows a prompt to upload a photo of their ID, and takes a "selfie." The system compares the selfie to the ID photo (biometric facial recognition) and authenticates the ID document against global databases in real-time.

Best for: High-risk or high-volume locations where compliance and fraud prevention are critical.

Cost: Typically involves a per-scan fee (e.g., $1.00) deducted from your software wallet.
